Clonostachys compactiuscula (Sacc.) Hawksworth & W. Gams F 16

Isolated from soil at Spot A in June.  This fungus is not so commonly found as the next similar species, Clonostachys rosea.  It is distinguished from the latter by more slender cylindrical conidia, paler or white colonies, and lack or rare formation of Verticillium-type conidiophores (primary conidiophores).  Although Tubaki placed the Japanese species in Clonostachys cylindrospora Arnaud, it is transferred to C. compactiuscula.  However, there is a room to reconsider Japanese strains.
