Online Faculty Development Workshops: April - June

In our spring semester, due to COVID-19 related circumstances, CELF courses are being taught online. Teachers and students are meeting online for lessons using a variety of video communications platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, among others. A consistently regular schedule of Faculty Development (FD) activities has been conducted to ensure that teachers and students alike are well supported in the CELF program. Below is a list of those FD workshops:

  1. Blackboard FD: Monday, April 27, 2020 (50 participants)
  2. Zoom Classroom FD: Tuesday, April 28, 2020 (24 participants)
  3. CELF Online Tutor FD Workshop: Friday, 1 May, 2020 (16 participants)
  4. ZOOM FD Workshop: Monday, May 4, 2020 (7 participants)
  5. Online Tutor FD Workshop: Tuesday, May 5, 2020 (18 participants)
  6. Assessment & Unitama FD Workshop: Friday, May 8, 2020 (17 participants)
  7. CELF Online Tutor and Google for Online Class FD Workshop: Wednesday, May 13, 2020 (4 participants)
  8. Google Application for Online Teaching FD Workshop: Friday, May 15, 2020 (9 participants)
  9. Practical Ideas for Teaching ELF Online - discussion: Friday, May 22, 2020 (16 participants)
  10. Blackboard Grade Center and Unitama - a guide to practical usage for assessment, and remote class management: Friday, June 12, 2020 (9 participants)

In addition to the CELF FD workshops listed above several CELF FD Special Workshops have been held.

On Friday, June 19, 2020, a CELF FD Special Workshop on “Practical approaches to evaluating writing produced in a process-product writing classroom” was conducted by Charlie Robertson, an Associate Professor of the College of Science and Engineering at Aoyama Gakuin and an Adjunct Professor of the Center for English as a Lingua Franca at Tamagawa University.

Two CELF Special Workshops were facilitated by Curtis Beaverford, a Professor of the Graduate School of Education at Tamagawa University. The first workshop on “PearDeck an interactive presentation tool” was held on Monday, June 22, 2020, and the second workshop on “Possible uses for Flipgrid in ELF courses” was held on Monday, June 29, 2020.
